One of my guys is like that at work, I simply listen and indulge him when it's practical to do so. Sort of a co-dependent thing going on on his part, but great guy very devoted to his job. I let it ride if I can, sometimes change the subject or get up and do something else or head for the bathroom for quick business. I'm not good at small talk anyway, as a matter of fact hate it so I listen more than I BS when it's not too bothersome hehe

How do you deal with "toppers"? [one upmanship]
by compound complex inwhen in conversion, you sometimes get carried away and the talk becomes all about you.. then, you remember you're in a conversation, say you're sorry, and allow the other person to talk.
she goes on about what's happening in her life, you listen and ask some questions.
she tells you more and then shifts the dialogue back to you.

Governments should not under-estimate the potential danger-health that the G.B.pose for the community of Jehovah`s Witnesses
by smiddy3 inat that time, the life-saving direction that we receive from jehovah’s organization may not appear practical from a human standpoint.
all of us must be ready to obey any instructions we may receive, whether these appear sound from a strategic or human standpoint or not.
its not such a big stretch of the imagination to think that jim jones or david koresh used such reasoning to convince their followers to do what they did, to have absolute faith in what they were saying was from god.

This, I love it !!!!
" I chose to send a letter of resignation by way of my attorney. Ultimately the same effect as DF/DA, but I took control of my life. Best thing ever to be free of this cult "
Elders excitedly open letter, read legal terminology. Blood pressure rises, foreskins recoil and sphincter tightening session begins. Loss of power, goes home no sex from wife.
Sue me, hehe
Screw them all DA rules !!!!

Good job Steph ! Once went to the Sherbrooke convention, worst weekend of my life EVAR ! Hours of driving to get there from the Laurentians just to abused and humiliated by more 'spiritual' members. Staying in the college dormatories sleeping in a little single bed dreaming about a younger sister that came on to me earlier..

JW's on my front sidewalk
by OnTheWayOut inso last weekend, the jw's ring the bell and my wife answers.
we live in a heavily spanish neighborhood but don't really speak spanish.
i thought my wife was quite clear that she is a "sister" to them, but maybe the one in charge of the group didn't get the message.

Great post OTWO !
Had something sort of like this happen to me a few days ago : went to a JW owned restaurant for a take out and told the friend that to be honest with him I had DA'ed, am still Christian and that all the pressure and false expectation were the cause of my mental breakdown a decade ago.
Spoke about 1914 as being end of system and that McMillan author of Faith On The March stood on the Brooklyn bridge waiting to be elevated up. Then outed Rutherford's 1925 false prediction Millions Now Living Will Never Die on him followed by how he was then sure that WW2 was really it, only to die then and there. 1975 and how I have read, heard and even remember hearing as a kid from numerous sources how it all really went down, even though the 'society' says otherwise.
By this time he wasn't speaking too much, but was listening attentively.
Finally I said the generation of 1914 are now all dead and that my greatest sadness was to come to the realization that I'm growing old and will most likely die in this system, but still do believe we are living in the end times. ( he liked that ! ) Also that I was gullible and had obviously been duped.. that we all need to plan for the future regardless of what the society tells him and that I'm in the process of planning my retirement in 10 years or so. Spoke all of it in witness newspeak which is probably why he didn't shut down and kept listening.
Then wished him a nice 'vacation' ( Holiday's ) , shook his hand and left. He seemed happy. Got in my car with the takeout and didn't know if I should cheer or cry..

Annoying jws
by Jrjw ina 'concerned' jw in my congregation rang me earlier and said she's noticed my daughter sits miserable at the meetings and said she's a right miserable girl in general.
i said she's happy and hyper when she's not at the meetings they're just really boring and she doesn't want to be there.
apparently i'm a bad parent coz she feels that way.

Jrjw, anyone that's the least bit kind, honest, conscientious and somewhat neurotic are easy pickings for the JW narcissist spiritual bullies, aka police. Things improved for me dramatically when I started putting my foot down and having my boundaries met. Personal space and boundaries are a foreign concept to many JW's. Look it up you'll be amazed. Not saying this is you Jrjw but a decade of someone trying to get the upper hand on you is quite enough. I went through same myself with the overbearing obese 'brother' I studied with. I switched congs. a year and a half later to get away from him only to have another group of fine specimens try the same move on me in the new location. Is just how JW's are trained, always looking for someone to push down on and criticize.
PS : The fat brother is an Elvis fan, so roll over Beethoven !
